AbbVie Receives Positive EU Opinion for Vitiligo Treatment

AbbVie Ltd was granted a positive opinion by the European Medicines Agency’s Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) on Monday, as reported on 29 June 2026. The opinion pertains to upadacitinib 15 mg taken once daily and supports its use in adult and adolescent patients diagnosed with non‑segmental vitiligo.

The CHMP’s recommendation is founded on the results of two Phase 3 clinical studies that compared upadacitinib with placebo. In both trials, upadacitinib achieved the co‑primary efficacy endpoints at week 48, demonstrating statistically significant improvement over placebo.

While the CHMP opinion is favorable, the final marketing authorization decision rests with the European Commission, which is expected to issue its ruling in the coming months.
