Film Production Announcement
Abundantia Entertainment, led by Vikram Malhotra, and Almighty Motion Picture, headed by Prabhleen Sandhu, have entered a joint venture to produce Heavy Metal, a feature‑length film inspired by Ameer Shahul’s investigative book Heavy Metal: How a Global Corporation Poisoned Kodaikanal (published by Pan Macmillan). The narrative is framed as a high‑stakes corporate‑environmental thriller, drawing creative parallels to Erin Brockovich, Dark Waters and the series Chernobyl.
The storyline will revisit the mercury‑contamination controversy that emerged in 2001 around a thermometer factory operated by Hindustan Unilever in Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu. The dispute escalated from local concerns to a prolonged battle involving former factory workers, the surrounding community, environmental activists and Greenpeace, raising questions about worker safety, industrial accountability and environmental responsibility.
The project has moved into pre‑production; principal casting is currently underway and filming is slated to commence shortly. Further details regarding the cast, director and additional production specifics are expected to be disclosed in the coming days.
