Announcement
Adani Airport Holdings Ltd disclosed that it will allocate 200 billion rupees, equivalent to approximately US$2.1 billion, to create integrated urban districts across its airport network in India. The initiative, described as an "airport city" concept, will be implemented at six airports located in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Jaipur and Guwahati, covering a total of 655 acres of land. Mumbai and Navi Mumbai together account for nearly 440 acres of the total area, and roughly 70 % of the investment is directed toward the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
Strategic Rationale
Jeet Adani, director of Adani Airport, stated that the development aims to transform airports into catalysts for investment, employment generation and improved passenger experiences, thereby supporting the long‑term growth of the surrounding cities.
Broader Group Plans
The Adani Group outlined a broader commitment to invest more than US$11 billion in its airports business by the year 2030. This larger capital programme includes intentions to bid for almost a dozen new terminal projects, undertake extensive infrastructure upgrades, and expand into aircraft‑maintenance services.
Hospitality Partnerships
As part of the airport‑city rollout, Adani Airport Holdings has entered into hotel management agreements with IHG Hotels & Resorts for five properties, integrating hospitality offerings within the new mixed‑use districts.
