Project Details

Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) has won a transmission project through the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process, where it emerged as the lowest bidder. The project is titled "Network Expansion Scheme in Western Region to Cater to Pumped Storage Potential near Satara (up to 4500 MW) - Part A".

Financial Commitment

The project entails an estimated capital expenditure of approximately Rs 4,700 crore.

Technical Specifications

The project will add 562 circuit kilometres (ckm) of transmission lines and 9,000 MVA of transformation capacity to AESL's portfolio. Specific components include:

  • Establishment of a 765/400 kV substation at Satara
  • Kolhapur-Satara 765 kV double-circuit transmission line
  • Augmentation of the Kolhapur pooling station
  • Associated transmission infrastructure

Implementation Structure

The project will be executed through a Special Purpose Vehicle named Satara Power Transmission Ltd. The delivery timeline is within 36 months from the award date.

Strategic Purpose

The project will facilitate evacuation of up to 4.5 GW of pumped storage potential in Maharashtra and strengthen the inter-regional transmission corridor between Western and Southern grids. It will support the growing pumped storage ecosystem in the Satara, Pune and Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) areas, and enable evacuation of renewable energy generated in Karnataka to major load centres in Maharashtra.

Portfolio Impact

Post completion, AESL's cumulative transmission network will expand to 29,739 ckm and 1,43,425 MVA transformation capacity. The company's transmission orderbook now stands at approximately Rs 85,000 crore.

Management Commentary

Mr. Kandarp Patel, CEO of Adani Energy Solutions Ltd, stated that pumped storage projects are emerging as a critical enabler of India's clean energy transition by providing the flexibility and reliability required to integrate large-scale renewable energy into the grid. The project will create vital transmission backbone supporting both renewable energy evacuation and energy storage deployment.
