Overview

AeroEagle announced that its electric buses serving the Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS) are now equipped with the HackersEra Secure Gateway ECU, which has entered series production. The deployment covers buses operating in both Pune and Ahmedabad, marking the first fleet‑wide integration of this cybersecurity solution.

Secure Gateway Functionality

The Pune‑based automotive cybersecurity firm HackersEra designed the gateway to sit at the centre of a bus’s in‑vehicle networks, such as CAN, separating domains that control the electric drivetrain, braking, doors, battery, and telematics. It permits only authorised messages for each domain, requires authentication before any diagnostic tool can modify settings, blocks unauthorised commands, and records any anomalous traffic for later investigation. By embedding the gateway at production, the risk of a single compromised module propagating across the fleet is contained.

Executive Statements

  • Rahul M Patil, Director of AeroEagle, stated that the buses carry thousands of passengers daily and that vehicle safety now includes the software inside the vehicle, emphasizing that cybersecurity is built into the bus from day one rather than added later.
  • Santhosh Marulasiddappa, General Manager and Chief Product Security Officer at AeroEagle, noted that cybersecurity must be engineered into the product and not treated as a compliance checkbox, and that the gateway provides a controlled, monitored communication layer protecting critical functions.
  • Vikash Chaudhary, Founder and CEO of HackersEra, explained that most vehicle attacks attempt to move laterally across networks, and that a gateway is the point to stop such movement, highlighting that the unit was designed in Pune and now operates on buses carrying Ahmedabad commuters.
