Afcons Infrastructure Ltd receives Letter of Acceptance for ₹1,918‑crore desalinated water tunnel in Mumbai
Afcons Infrastructure Ltd announced that it has received a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for the design and construction of a desalinated water conveyance tunnel. The tunnel will start at the proposed water pumping station at Manori, run to Charkop and extend further to Mahavir Nagar (Kandivali) in Mumbai. The contract value is ₹1,918 crore, inclusive of Goods and Services Tax (GST) and operation & maintenance (O&M) costs.
Executive Chairman Krishnamurthy Subramanian stated that the desalinated water conveyance tunnel is a critical step toward ensuring a sustainable water supply for Mumbai and demonstrates Afcons’ engineering excellence and execution capabilities. Managing Director S Paramasivan added that Afcons is honoured to partner with BMC again and, together with the Kasheli–Mulund water conveyance tunnel, will deliver the complex project on schedule while maintaining the highest standards.
The release also highlighted Afcons’ broader water‑related portfolio in India, citing the 7.13 km underground water conveyance tunnel from Kasheli to Mulund for BMC, an 8.7 km treated‑water tunnel for CIDCO in Navi Mumbai, a Rural Water Supply Scheme in Uttar Pradesh, and a Water Supply Project in Rajasthan. Additional infrastructure achievements include the Annaram Barrage in Telangana, part of the world’s largest multi‑stage irrigation project.
Internationally, Afcons has delivered water‑supply projects in several African nations, including Tanzania, Ivory Coast, Benin and Rwanda, underscoring its global footprint.
