Afcons Receives CII National Award for Environmental Best Practices 2026
Afcons Infrastructure Ltd was honoured with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) National Award for Environmental Best Practices 2026 in the Biodiversity Management category for its work on the Mumbai‑Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Project (C‑2 Package). The award ceremony took place in Chennai on 9 October 2026, where Mr. Mihir Mishra, Vice President – CPE, and Mr. Sumon Paul, Assistant General Manager – HSE, accepted the award on behalf of the company.
Mr. Giridhar Rajagopalan, Deputy Managing Director of Afcons, stated that sustainability is integral to the company’s project execution, emphasizing the firm’s focus on minimizing environmental impacts through rigorous management, responsible resource utilization, and sustainable construction practices.
The project incorporated several circular‑economy initiatives: concrete washout waste was recycled to recover sand, aggregates and water; tunnelling muck was reused in segment casting; tunnel wastewater was treated before discharge; and roof skylights were installed to maximise natural daylight, collectively reducing resource consumption, waste generation, energy use and overall environmental impact.
