Overview

India, 11 June 2026 – Akutee, a brand founded by Urmila Ghatge and her daughter Sagarika Z Ghatge, announced the evolution of a personal hand‑painting practice into a commercial enterprise that spans both clothing and home décor.

The founders explain that Urmila has been hand‑painting for over four decades, initially creating floral motifs that appeared on the garments she wore and on fabrics within the household. When Akutee was formally established, those hand‑painted garments became the first product line, extending the family’s artistic language into a market offering.

Expansion into Home

The same sensibility later broadened to Akutee Home, where hand‑painting is applied to furnishings, lampshades, textiles, and bespoke pieces for residential interiors and hospitality environments. The brand treats clothing and home as a continuous spectrum, shaped by material, memory, and the way people live with objects.

Brand Structure

Akutee operates through two channels: Akutee Store, which focuses on apparel, and Akutee Home, which delivers the home‑focused product range. Both channels showcase items that blend textiles, paintings, and everyday objects into a cohesive artistic collection.

Founder Commentary

Sagarika Z Ghatge stated, “A lot of what informs Akutee already existed around us long before we thought of creating a brand… there was never a deliberate distinction between clothing and home because both came from the same place.”
