Amazon announced that its planned investment in data centre infrastructure in northwest Louisiana has been increased from the previously disclosed $12 billion to $18 billion. The expansion adds a third data‑center campus in Shreveport, bringing the total to three campuses located across Caddo and Bossier Parishes. When fully operational, the facilities are projected to generate up to 750 full‑time data‑centre jobs and to support an additional 2,500 positions in the surrounding community, including roles such as electricians, HVAC technicians, project engineers, network specialists, operations managers and security specialists. Amazon will develop the campuses in partnership with STACK Infrastructure, which will own and operate all three sites and anticipates creating up to 2,250 construction jobs during the build phase. The company has committed to fully fund all power‑related infrastructure, agreeing to pay 100 % of the costs for new energy infrastructure and grid upgrades required by Southwestern Electric Power Company, ensuring no cost is passed to local ratepayers. In addition, Amazon will invest up to $400 million in public water and wastewater infrastructure to support the campuses, with all such improvements also funded by the company. The data centres rely primarily on air‑side cooling and will use water‑based cooling for less than 13 % of the year, only when ambient temperatures exceed roughly 85 °F. Amazon has previously invested in solar projects in Louisiana that will add up to 200 MW of carbon‑free electricity to the grid, a capacity sufficient to power approximately 44,000 Louisiana homes. Through its Amazon Northwest Louisiana Community Fund, the company awarded nearly $500,000 to 46 local non‑profit organisations, schools and community members, and it plans to launch new workforce‑development programmes in collaboration with local educational institutions and technical colleges. Since 2010, Amazon’s cumulative investment in Louisiana exceeds $6 billion, encompassing infrastructure and employee compensation, and includes the opening of an advanced robotics fulfillment centre in the Shreveport area in 2024 employing over 2,000 people, as well as a delivery station opened in 2025.
