Amgen (NASDAQ: AMGN) announced on August 12, 2026 that it will establish a new Science and Innovation Center in Genome Valley, Hyderabad, India. The facility will become part of Amgen’s global R&D network, which currently comprises seven research laboratories.
Purpose and Capabilities
The center will bring together scientists and technologists working in discovery chemistry, drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics, and precision medicine. It will integrate wet‑lab experimentation with advanced data analytics, artificial intelligence and digital innovation to accelerate the discovery and development of medicines.
Operational Timeline
Construction is slated to be completed and the center is expected to be operational in 2027.
Leadership Comments
Jay Bradner, M.D., executive vice president of Research and Development, Artificial Intelligence and Data at Amgen, said the new center expands the integration of experimental science with data and technology across Amgen’s global research capabilities. Som Chattopadhyay, senior vice president of Global Business Solutions and national executive at Amgen, described the Hyderabad site as an important part of Amgen’s global R&D network and highlighted the collaboration with the local innovation ecosystem. Naveen Gullapalli, managing director of Amgen India, noted that Hyderabad’s strong life‑sciences ecosystem and STEM talent enable the application of advanced technologies at scale. Shri D. Sridhar Babu, Minister for IT, Electronics & Communications, Industries & Commerce, and Legislative Affairs, Government of Telangana, praised Hyderabad’s role as a global hub for high‑value research and said the center will help discover the next generation of medicines.
Strategic Significance
The new facility will complement Amgen’s existing technology and innovation site in Hyderabad, allowing closer integration of biotechnology and digital innovation. Amgen expects the center to improve speed, precision and efficiency of medicine development, thereby serving more patients worldwide.
