Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham announced that its Chennai campus team, Quantum Realm, achieved second place at the national level in the ISRO‑organized IRoC‑U Robotics Challenge for the year 2026 and was awarded a cash prize of Rs 7 lakh.

Competition Details

The IRoC‑U competition, launched in 2024 to commemorate the Chandrayaan‑3 mission, attracted nearly 600 student teams from across India, of which only 20 progressed to the final evaluation stage held from July 21 to July 23 at the UR Rao Satellite Centre in Bengaluru. The final challenge required participants to develop autonomous drones and accompanying base stations capable of surveying, navigating, landing, and transmitting data in environments where GPS signals are unavailable, with the intent of supporting future space and planetary exploration missions.

Award Presentation

The prize was presented on August 23 in Ahmedabad during the National Space Day celebrations. The ceremony featured Gujarat Cabinet Minister Arjunbhai Modhwadia, ISRO Chairman Dr V Narayanan, and Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, who each handed over the award to the student team.

Team and Mentors

The Quantum Realm team comprised ten members: Tanush J, Shakti Sree Kumaran, Sanjay Sree, Ram Sreekanth, Kevin Victor, Kavish V, N. Sunil Varma, Manoj Gangadharan, Rahothaman M, and Dharmadashan. Their work was supervised by Dr Piyush Pratap Singh and Dr Abhishek Jha, who provided technical guidance throughout the competition.
