Amul Bengal Dairy Project Bhoomi Pujan and Infrastructure Initiatives
Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah will perform the Bhoomi Pujan of the world's largest curd production plant under the Amul Bengal Dairy Project at the New Town Convention Centre in Kolkata on 19 July 2026. The event is part of the White Revolution 2.0 initiative and will be attended by West Bengal Chief Minister Shri Suvendu Adhikari, along with dignitaries and cooperative sector representatives.
Amul is establishing the dairy project at the Howrah Food Park in West Bengal with an investment of approximately ₹700 crore. Upon completion, the facility will have the capacity to process 30 lakh litres of milk per day and produce 10 lakh kilograms (1,000 metric tonnes) of curd and other cultured dairy products daily. The plant's production breakdown includes packaging 10 lakh litres of milk, processing 2 lakh litres of UHT milk, producing 1 lakh litres of ice cream, 20 metric tonnes of paneer, 10 metric tonnes of ghee, and 10 metric tonnes of sweets daily, along with approximately 2.5 lakh packs of flavoured milk.
Currently, Amul's cooperative network in West Bengal includes more than 1.25 lakh milk-producing farmers, including over 30,000 women milk producers, who collectively provide approximately 9 lakh litres of milk daily. The project aims to expand modern processing, value addition, and marketing facilities in the state's dairy sector, providing farmers with better market access and enhanced incomes.
During the event, a Memorandum of Understanding will be exchanged between Bharat Taxi and the Department of Information Technology and Electronics (DoIT&E) of the West Bengal Government for the operation and expansion of mobility services in the state.
Shri Amit Shah will present registration certificates to representatives of the more than 200 newly constituted Dairy Cooperative Societies and one of the 11 newly registered Multipurpose Rural Cooperative Societies in West Bengal under White Revolution 2.0.
The Minister will also launch the e-RCS portal, developed for computerization of the office of the Registrar of Cooperative Societies in West Bengal, which aims to make registration and administrative processes for cooperative societies digital, transparent, and accessible.
Infrastructure development includes laying foundation stones for 14 storage warehouses with a total capacity of 1,400 metric tonnes across 10 districts, constructed at an estimated cost of ₹5.98 crore. Additionally, two warehouses with 100 metric tonnes capacity each in South 24 Parganas and Cooch Behar, constructed at a total cost of ₹73.61 lakh, will be inaugurated.
These initiatives are expected to strengthen dairy cooperatives, rural storage infrastructure, digital cooperative administration, and mobility services in West Bengal, expanding economic opportunities for farmers, milk producers, and rural cooperative institutions.
