Anthropic, the developer of the Claude model, has entered a six‑year, $10 billion contract with cloud‑infrastructure startup Volta Infra Holdings to obtain AI computing capacity in Norway, according to Bloomberg. The agreement is part of a larger infrastructure arrangement that links Volta with data‑center operator Bitdeer.
Bitdeer announced a 16‑year colocation lease with Volta valued at approximately $4.7 billion in initial contracted revenue. The lease includes an optional eight‑year extension that could raise the total contract value to $8 billion over a 24‑year horizon. The facility will be built in Tydal, Norway, and will be managed by Bitdeer.
The Tydal data centre is designed to deliver 133 MW of gross power capacity, of which 121 MW will be allocated to an AI‑specific IT load for the unnamed end‑user. The hardware stack will comprise Dell Technologies servers equipped with Nvidia’s latest Vera Rubin AI chips. Construction is planned in two equal phases, with the first phase slated to commence on 31 December 2026 and the second on 31 March 2027.
Financial backing for the project includes a $1.3 billion credit backstop that is expected to be arranged by J.P. Morgan together with another major global financial institution. The project is marketed as a purpose‑built facility powered entirely by renewable hydropower.
Following the public announcement, Bitdeer’s shares rose sharply, gaining approximately 14 % in trading. The deal underscores the accelerating demand for AI compute resources and represents a multi‑billion‑dollar investment in Norway’s emerging AI data‑center ecosystem.
