Anthropic Targets Mid‑November IPO

Anthropic PBC, the artificial‑intelligence firm behind Claude, plans to go public as early as mid‑November, according to Bloomberg citing people familiar with the matter. The company intends to commence formal marketing of its initial public offering during the week of 9 November, positioning the listing to occur before Thanksgiving on 26 November. Earlier, Anthropic had expected to file for an IPO after the summer, but the timeline was delayed; the firm still expects to complete its market debut no later than the end of 2026, though the schedule may shift.

The IPO comes amid heightened competition from OpenAI, which has recently gained sales momentum, and both firms are under public scrutiny over AI‑safety concerns following several high‑profile hacking incidents. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei posted an essay on his personal website urging a slowdown in the pace of new AI model development. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has postponed his own company’s IPO, describing a public offering at this time as ill‑advised.

Investors reportedly view a fair valuation for Anthropic in the $1.8 trillion to $2 trillion range, and the company aims to match or exceed the size of SpaceX’s IPO. Financially, Anthropic recorded a net loss of almost $42 billion for the fiscal year 2025, about five times the $8.3 billion loss recorded in 2024. Revenue for 2025 rose to roughly $4.6 billion from $386 million the prior year, while operating loss expanded to more than $8 billion.
