Apple Inc. announced that veteran executive Phil Schiller, aged 66, will relinquish his operational oversight of the App Store and global product launch events. Schiller will retain the title of Apple Fellow and will focus on unspecified initiatives within the company. The change comes as John Ternus is set to assume the role of Chief Executive Officer, while Tim Cook, who has led Apple for 15 years, will transition to Executive Chairman, marking a significant leadership reshuffle.
Effective immediately, responsibility for the App Store – a revenue engine estimated to generate more than $30 billion annually – will shift to Apple’s Services division, which is led by Eddy Cue. Day‑to‑day management of the digital marketplace, including app distribution, third‑party marketplaces, and the Apple Arcade gaming service, will be overseen by Carson Oliver.
Responsibility for global product launches and events will be transferred to Nola Weinstein, previously Schiller’s deputy. Weinstein will report directly to Kristin Huguet Quayle, Vice President of Communications and Public Relations. This reallocation of duties precedes Apple’s scheduled September 9 event, where the company is expected to unveil a foldable iPhone and an updated Apple Watch lineup.
These moves underscore a broader generational shift across Apple’s senior leadership, with additional upcoming departures anticipated in legal, payments, operations, finance, hardware, and government affairs, presenting an immediate organizational challenge for the incoming CEO.
