Athulya Senior Care Opens 60‑Bed Geriatric Hospital in Chennai

On 30 June 2026, Athulya Senior Care, India’s largest assisted‑living provider, inaugurated the Athulya Geriatric Care Hospital, a 60‑bed facility located in Valasaravakkam, Chennai. The inauguration was performed by the Hon’ble Governor of Tamil Nadu, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, in the presence of Dr Karthik Narayan (Founder and Managing Director), Srinivasan G (Founder and CEO) and Krishna Kavya (Founder and Director) of Athulya Senior Care, along with other healthcare professionals and industry leaders.

The hospital is purpose‑built exclusively for older adults and completes Athulya’s 360° elder‑care continuum that already comprises assisted living, home care and palliative services. It houses six Centres of Excellence – Geriatric Intensive Care, Orthopedics & Rehabilitation, Laparoscopic Surgery, Neurology, Urology and Psychiatry – and is staffed by more than 20 doctors covering ten medical disciplines, including cardiology, oncology, nephrology and rehabilitation medicine.

Athulya highlights that India’s elderly population (aged 55 and above) is projected to reach 193.4 million by 2031, while the country currently has only about 20,000 senior‑care beds against an estimated requirement of 400,000 beds, indicating a shortfall of roughly 380,000 beds. The organised assisted‑living sector contains fewer than 4,500 units nationwide, and Tamil Nadu alone has around 10 million people over 55, underscoring the urgency for specialised geriatric infrastructure.

The new hospital offers round‑the‑clock geriatric emergency services, diagnostic and surgical facilities, dedicated rehabilitation programmes and a healing garden, all designed to international safety standards. Athulya’s leadership describes the facility as a natural expansion that enables continuity of care, chronic disease management, recovery, rehabilitation and long‑term care for seniors, preserving their dignity and quality of life.
