Launch of Electronic Gold Receipts (EGR) on NSE
Augmont Enterprises Limited and the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) commenced live trading of the Electronic Gold Receipts (EGR) segment on 7 November 2026, marking the first exchange‑traded gold product in India. The partnership combines NSE’s regulated exchange infrastructure with Augmont’s integrated physical‑gold ecosystem, allowing investors to trade physically backed gold through demat accounts.
Opening‑Day Trading Activity
By 04:25 PM on the first trading session, a total of 1,60,357 EGR units were exchanged, equivalent to approximately 6 kg of gold. The cumulative traded value reached roughly Rs 23.34 crore. Prices remained confined to a narrow intraday band of Rs 1,450.50 to Rs 1,460.00 per unit, while the bid‑ask spread hovered between Rs 0.50 and Rs 1.00, reflecting continuous two‑way quotations and an orderly order book. Each EGR represents 100 mg of physical gold, which is stored in SEBI‑regulated vaults. The segment operates on a T+1 settlement cycle, with trades settled on the next business day via NSE’s clearing and settlement mechanism. Investors retain the option to convert EGR holdings into physical gold under the applicable framework.
Role of Augmont in the Ecosystem
Under the strategic collaboration, Augmont serves as the physical‑gold and infrastructure partner, responsible for creation, vaulting, redemption, and liquidity provision for the EGRs. The gold backing the receipts is sourced through Augmont’s integrated refining infrastructure, linking physical gold processing with exchange‑based trading within a regulated environment.
Executive Comment
Ketan Kothari, Whole‑time Director of Augmont Enterprises Limited, stated: “The commencement of EGR trading marks the transition of our collaboration with NSE from building the underlying infrastructure to enabling a live, exchange‑traded gold market. The day‑one trading activity, continuous two‑way quotations and orderly price discovery are important initial milestones for a new market segment. At Augmont, we have brought together our refining capabilities and physical gold infrastructure to support the creation, vaulting and redemption of EGRs. We believe this initiative can play an important role in making physical gold more accessible, transparent and integrated with India’s formal financial ecosystem.”
