Bata India’s Strategic Outlook and Financial Highlights
At its 93rd Annual General Meeting, Bata India Limited – India’s most trusted footwear brand – presented a comprehensive growth roadmap anchored in product innovation, operational excellence, digital acceleration, and portfolio transformation. The strategy aims to reinforce the company’s leadership in the evolving Indian footwear market while delivering sustainable, profitable growth.
The retailer currently serves millions of consumers through the country’s largest footwear network, comprising more than 2,000 brand‑owned outlets, over 775 franchise stores, a multi‑brand distribution channel, direct‑to‑consumer platforms, marketplaces, and an omnichannel fulfilment system. Of these, more than 1,000 stores are omnichannel‑enabled, and 70% of all stores are equipped for hyper‑local delivery, underscoring a focus on expanding reach and enhancing the seamlessness of every consumer touchpoint.
A key pillar of the retail transformation is Zero Base Merchandising (ZBM), which is operational in over 800 stores and is slated to cover 900+ stores by the end of 2026. ZBM enables the company to build assortments driven by local demand signals, reduce product clutter, improve availability, enhance store navigation, and present fresher, more relevant choices, shifting from a uniform to a consumer‑led store model.
Operational excellence initiatives have yielded measurable improvements: in‑store availability rose by 8%, while inventory freshness advanced from the mid‑70% range to approximately 90%, supported by season‑to‑season new‑to‑store product resets. The portfolio is being modernised with a stronger emphasis on contemporary styling, enhanced comfort, and superior value across brands such as Hush Puppies, Power, Floatz, Comfit, and core Bata offerings. Focused marketing and storytelling efforts are intended to boost brand desirability, particularly among younger, style‑aware, comfort‑conscious, and digitally influenced consumers.
Chairman Ashwani Windlass highlighted that FY 2025‑26 marked a purposeful transformation, emphasizing strengthened competitiveness, agility, and preparation for sustainable growth. He noted the external environment’s complexity, praising the team’s resilience through diversified sourcing, disciplined inventory management, and agile execution, and expressed cautious optimism about the company’s direction.
Reflecting confidence in its financial health, the Board approved a final dividend of 180% in line with Bata India’s Dividend Distribution Policy. The company also underscored its commitment to responsible growth: CSR initiatives during the year positively impacted more than 9,200 students and were supported by over 7,000 hours of employee volunteering.
Bata India serves over 250,000 customers daily and sells close to 50 million pairs of footwear annually. Its brand portfolio includes Bata Red Label, Bata Comfit, Power, NorthStar, Floatz, Bubblegummers, and Hush Puppies, among others, aiming to make global trends and premium fashion accessible to all consumers.
