Bharat Dynamics Limited has made a regulatory disclosure pursuant to Regulation 30 of the SEBI (LODR) Regulations, 2015 regarding a board appointment.
The Ministry of Defence, Department of Defence Production, Government of India approved the appointment of Dr. Jagannath Nayak, DS&DG (MSS), DRDO as Part-Time Official Director (Government Director) on the Board of Bharat Dynamics Limited. The approval was conveyed through Office Memorandum No. DDP-M0001/11/03/2018-D(BDL) dated October 6, 2026.
The appointment will become effective from the date of allotment of Director Identification Number (DIN), as the application for his DIN is currently under process. The company received formal intimation of this appointment on October 7, 2026.
Director Profile
Dr. Jagannath Nayak brings over 35 years of experience in defence research and development. He is recognized for his work in indigenous design and development of advanced avionics for defence and aerospace applications.
As Director of CHESS, he led the development, field testing, and technology transfer of India's first Directed Energy Weapon (DEW) system. He is credited as the chief architect of Fibre Optic Gyro guidance for Akash missiles and DEW-based Anti-Drone systems.
As Project Director at the Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Hyderabad, he led the indigenous development of Fibre Optic Gyroscopes, a critical technology deployed in missiles, aircraft, and main battle tanks, contributing to India's self-reliance in defence technology.
Educational Background and Achievements
Dr. Nayak holds an MS and a PhD in Electrical Communication Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. He was the Founder Chairperson of the IEEE Photonics Society, Hyderabad Chapter, and served as a Distinguished Visiting Professor at IISc Bangalore and IIT Madras from 2009 to 2014.
He has published over 125 research papers and authored several books, specializing in Directed Energy Weapons, Inertial Navigation Systems, Lasers, and Fiber Optics. His career is noted for scientific excellence, visionary leadership, and transformative contributions to India's defence R&D.
