Bharat Taxi Cooperative Ride-Hailing Platform Launch

Bharat Taxi was established on 6 June 2025 as India's first cooperative-led ride-hailing platform under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002. The platform is supported by eight national cooperative institutions including National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC), Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO), National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Krishak Bharati Cooperative Limited (KRIBHCO), Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Limited (Amul), National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Limited (NAFED), National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), and National Cooperative Export Limited (NCEL).

Operational Model and Growth Metrics

As of 25 July 2026, Bharat Taxi has achieved nearly 8 lakh registered drivers (Sarathis) and approximately 41 lakh registered customers across multiple cities. The service is currently operational in Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Jaipur, Kanpur, and Pune. In Jaipur specifically, over 30,000 Sarathis and nearly 7 lakh customers have joined the platform. Expansion plans include launching operations in Ranchi, Patna, Guwahati, Bhopal, Kolkata, Indore, and Nagpur in the coming months, with nationwide presence targeted by 2029.

Cooperative Ownership and Financial Structure

The platform operates on a zero-commission, surge-free pricing model where drivers retain 100% of fare earnings. Drivers can become member-owners by purchasing shares worth Rs.500 (shares valued at Rs.100 each). The cooperative distributes 80% of its earnings to Sarathis based on kilometers traveled, while 20% is credited to Bharat Taxi as Sarathis' capital. A 7% service charge is applied only at airport prepaid booths to cover operational expenses.

Service Offerings and Features

Bharat Taxi offers multiple ride categories including 2-Wheeler (Bike Taxi), Auto, Economy Cab, Premium Sedan, XL Cab (SUV), Rentals, Out-Station travel, and Scheduled Rides. The platform features transparent pricing without surge pricing, women-centric mobility initiatives through Sarathi Didi program, and Bike Didi initiative which has attracted over 150 women drivers as of February 2026. Safety features include police integration, control-room monitoring, KYC verification, background checks, live ride tracking, SOS support, and driver ratings.

Digital Integration and Partnerships

The platform has integrated with national digital infrastructure through an MoU with National e-Governance Division (NeGD), enabling integration with DigiLocker, UMANG, and API Setu for paperless onboarding and digital verification. Key institutional partnerships include Delhi Traffic Police, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, Airport Authority, IFFCO Tokio Insurance, State Bank of India, and Paytm. Airport connectivity is established through agreements with Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation and Delhi Airport Parking Services.

Social Security and Welfare Measures

Sarathis are facilitated to register on the e-Shram portal, making them eligible for free medical treatment up to Rs.5 lakh under Ayushman Bharat - Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY). Additional benefits include personal accident insurance of Rs.5 lakh through IFFCO Tokio at nominal rates, advisory support for driver welfare, and group health insurance coverage for drivers and their families through Paytm partnership.
