Inauguration of India’s Highest‑Altitude BharatBenz Workshop
On 23 September 2026, Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), the maker of BharatBenz trucks and buses, together with PPS Trucking, inaugurated a new 3S (Sales, Service & Spares) facility in Phey Village, Leh district, Ladakh. The workshop occupies 20,000 sq ft on the Leh‑Srinagar‑Uri Highway at an altitude of approximately 11,550 feet above sea level, making it the first commercial‑vehicle repair centre at such a height in India.
The centre is designed to serve a wide catch‑area that includes Kargil, Drass and the Leh‑China border region. It is equipped with three fully‑fitted service bays, advanced diagnostic systems, modern tools and a robust inventory of genuine BharatBenz spare parts. A team of more than 20 trained technicians operates the facility, which can service over 1,400 vehicles per year and provides 24 × 7 roadside assistance for on‑road breakdowns. Driver‑comfort amenities such as dedicated rest areas are also provided.
The workshop primarily supports BharatBenz trucks deployed in stone‑crushing operations, macadam road construction undertaken by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), and the transportation of communication‑tower infrastructure. The region’s abundant mineral resources—borax, high‑quality marble, cement‑grade limestone and granite—drive substantial construction activity, creating a strong demand for reliable heavy‑duty vehicle support.

Rajiv Chaturvedi, President & Chief Business Officer of DICV, highlighted that the new facility brings world‑class after‑sales support closer to customers operating in harsh weather, steep gradients and remote terrain, thereby reducing downtime and enhancing productivity. Rajiv Sanghvi, Managing Director of PPS Trucking, emphasized the strategic importance of the highest‑altitude service point for delivering a best‑in‑class ownership experience and maximising vehicle uptime in the corridor.
