Overview

Bhatia Mobile Ltd, a family‑run public limited mobile‑retail company listed on the BSE since 2018, announced the opening of its first store in Haryana, located at Shop No. 11‑12, Municipal Market, Rohtak (PIN 124001). This marks the company’s entry into the home state of the founding family after establishing a network of more than 500 outlets across Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

Historical Background

The business traces its origins to the 1980s when Mr. Harbans Lal Bhatia operated textile weaving and wholesale ventures in Surat. An accident in 1986 left him bedridden for three years, leading to a collapse of the business and losses of approximately ₹80 lakh by 1989. The family sold personal assets to repay debts and restarted from a small rented shop that combined a PCO/STD booth with a juice centre. Sons Sanjeev and Nikhil Bhatia assisted while attending school, waking at 4 a.m. to source fruit and manage the shop.

In 1996‑97 the family entered the mobile‑accessories segment and opened the first dedicated mobile store in Surat in 1998. By 2003, three stores were operating in Surat, serving nearby towns such as Vapi, Valsad, Bilimora, Bardoli and Vyara. A franchise model adopted in 2007 accelerated growth to 85 stores by 2012, and in 2014 the company launched its own handset brand, HSL Mobile. Today, Mr. Sanjeev Bhatia serves as Chairman and Mr. Nikhil Bhatia is Whole‑Time Director, co‑promoter and co‑founder.

Expansion Milestones

The firm has expanded beyond Gujarat into Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, capitalising on rising demand for smartphones, internet connectivity and digital payments in Tier‑2 and Tier‑3 cities. Earlier in the current year, Bhatia Mobile added 90 stores in 90 days, underscoring its rapid rollout capability. The total store count now exceeds 500, supported by robust supply‑chain, logistics, staffing and employee‑training frameworks. Despite the growth of e‑commerce, the company continues to prioritise physical retail, citing customer preference for hands‑on evaluation of camera quality, battery life, features and financing options.

Financial Highlights

According to the press release, Bhatia Mobile’s annual turnover is approximately ₹1,000 crore and the company is valued at around ₹500 crore. The firm’s listing on the Bombay Stock Exchange dates back to 2018.

Store Launch Details and Promotions

The Rohtak store inauguration was attended by Mrs. Kamlesh Kumari Bhatia, the mother of the founders, alongside her sons. To celebrate the launch, Bhatia Mobile announced several promotional offers: a neckband originally priced at ₹999 was sold for ₹90; earbuds with a list price of ₹1,999 were offered at ₹199; select iPhone models were available at previous price points with easy EMI options; and a “Spin and Win” contest allowed customers to win prizes such as an electric vehicle, television, washing machine, smartphones and other rewards, subject to applicable terms and conditions.

Future Outlook

The Rohtak outlet is described as the starting point for further penetration into Haryana’s Tier‑2 and Tier‑3 markets. The company intends to leverage its proven franchise and supply‑chain model to replicate its success in additional locations within the state.
