The Ministry of Heavy Industries provided an update on the modernization and capacity expansion efforts of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL). During FY 2025-26, the company incurred a capital expenditure of ₹671 Crore towards the expansion, modernization, and capacity augmentation of its facilities, driven by business requirements, market opportunities, and technological developments.
Under the Ministry's 'Enhancement of Competitiveness in Indian Capital Goods Scheme, Phase II', BHEL has established Advanced testing facilities for strategic equipment and advanced material testing facilities at its Hyderabad and Bhopal units. A Common Engineering Facility Centre (CEFC) for skilling in Advanced Welding Technologies was also set up at six locations, through which more than 10,000 welders have been trained.
The company has diversified into new areas including Nuclear Power, Defence & Aerospace, and Renewable Energy. BHEL has supplied equipment for 5.4 GW of nuclear power units to date and is a regular supplier of critical defence guns to the Indian Navy.
Specific details were provided for BHEL's Tiruchirappalli unit, where a capital expenditure of approximately ₹70 Crore was incurred during 2024-25 and 2025-26 to enhance production capacity. The unit's order book position as of June 30, 2026, stood at ₹43,927 crore. Over the last two years, the unit recruited more than 100 employees across various cadres.
