BIMTECH‑IAI MoU to Build Carbon‑Market Professional Capabilities

On September 9, 2026, in Greater Noida, the Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH), an AACSB‑accredited business school, formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Institute of Actuaries of India (IAI). The MoU was executed by Dr. Pankaj Priya, Dean & Deputy Director of BIMTECH, and Dr. Ruchita Verma, Executive Director of IAI.

The agreement commits the two institutions to jointly develop and deliver between two and three certification programmes over the next twelve months. The inaugural offering will be an online Certification Training Programme on Carbon Credits & Carbon Markets, scheduled to run from September 19 to October 10, 2026. This programme is designed for a broad professional audience that includes actuaries and actuarial students, finance and investment professionals, risk managers, ESG and sustainability specialists, policy analysts, consultants, corporate executives and students interested in climate finance.

Curriculum development is led by Dr. Prabina Rajib, Director of BIMTECH, who will also conduct key sessions covering global carbon‑market mechanisms such as the European Union Emissions Trading System (EU‑ETS), India’s Perform, Achieve & Trade (PAT) scheme, Energy Saving Certificates (ESCerts), the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), and carbon futures trading. The programme integrates concepts from global climate frameworks, net‑zero calculations, climate‑related risk assessment, voluntary carbon markets and regulatory compliance structures.

In remarks, Dr. Prabina Rajib emphasized that the transition to a low‑carbon economy is reshaping business, finance and risk decisions, creating a demand for professionals who understand carbon‑market dynamics and associated opportunities and risks. Dr. Ruchita Verma added that the evolving sustainability landscape offers new roles for individuals with strong analytical and risk‑management skills, and that the BIMTECH‑IAI collaboration will address these emerging professional requirements.

Through this MoU, BIMTECH and IAI aim to create a future‑ready professional ecosystem equipped to navigate the opportunities and challenges presented by the global shift toward a low‑carbon economy.
