Binance Charity, the philanthropic arm of the global cryptocurrency exchange Binance, issued a press release on 21 August 2026 from Guwahati, India, stating that it will donate INR 3.3 crore (approximately USD 350,000) to Goonj’s Rahat Initiative. The contribution is intended to provide urgent humanitarian relief in Assam, which is experiencing its worst floods in more than six decades.

Flood Impact in Assam

According to the latest reports cited in the release, the floods have displaced thousands of families, raised the death toll to 105, and affected more than 12 lakh (1.2 million) people across 25 districts and 2,734 villages during the current year. Earlier in August, 349 villages in the districts of Golaghat, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Bajali, Dhemaji, Sonitpur and Jorhat were reported as severely impacted.

Use of Funds

The INR 3.3 crore donation will be channelled through Goonj’s Rahat Initiative to meet immediate relief and recovery needs. The assistance will cover emergency food, clean drinking water, hygiene kits, shelter, household items, tarpaulins and other essential supplies, allocated according to the priorities of the affected communities. The contribution is expected to reach 27,500 families across the seven flood‑hit districts, helping them address immediate necessities while supporting the longer‑term rebuilding process.

SB Seker, Head of APAC for Binance, expressed solidarity with the flood‑affected population, emphasizing the importance of collaborative community and organizational support during crises. He noted that the partnership with Goonj’s Rahat Initiative aims to deliver on‑ground relief and assist families in their recovery journey. Anshu Gupta, Founder of Goonj, highlighted the staggering scale of loss, the disruption of stored grain and livelihoods, and stressed that while the donation accelerates emergency response, a sustained long‑term intervention will also be required.
