BMW Chair: Chinese Market Open for Non‑Chinese Brands

Nicolas Peter, supervisory board chairman of BMW, said on Thursday that the Chinese car market still has space for automakers beyond Chinese manufacturers, emphasizing that the market remains the world’s largest. He affirmed that BMW retains confidence in the United States market, describing it as stable and important for the German automaker. Peter highlighted a production‑sales imbalance in Europe, noting that BMW manufactures more vehicles than it sells in the region despite implementing a local strategy. Looking ahead to 2035, he projected that electric vehicles could account for 50 % to 60 % of the European automotive market on average.
