Overview
BNM Institute of Technology (BNMIT), an autonomous institution under Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) and approved by AICTE, is one of Bangalore’s oldest and most recognised engineering and management colleges. The legacy of its parent group, BNM Educational Institutions (BNMEI), dates back to 1972, reflecting a heritage of value‑based, high‑quality education.
New Integrated Wellness Programme
BNMIT has launched an all‑inclusive student wellness programme that addresses seven dimensions of health: physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, social, occupational, and financial well‑being. The programme combines weekly in‑person sessions with virtual modules and is delivered in partnership with Sankalp Wellness. It incorporates intelligent, tech‑enabled analysis to identify individual student needs and provide personalised recommendations on behavioural and social development.
Unique Grading System – Professional Grade Point Average (PGPA)
To complement the wellness initiative, BNMIT has instituted a flexible, people‑first grading mechanism called the Professional Grade Point Average (PGPA). Unlike traditional grading, PGPA evaluates students on communication skills, personal well‑being, creativity quotient, problem‑solving abilities, and academic performance. Each student receives a handbook to record semester‑end reflections, set wellness and personality‑development targets for the next term, and report progress, enabling the institution to gain insights into industry‑readiness and interpersonal challenges.
MBA Programme Distinction
BNMIT’s MBA school, ranked among the leading MBA colleges in the region, is the only institution in its domain to embed this wellness curriculum within its business administration courses, thereby preparing graduates for the turbulent business environment with a holistic health perspective.
Academic Portfolio
The institute offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes in artificial intelligence, information science, machine learning, electronics, and management, among others, emphasizing a personality‑centric education methodology aimed at creating entrepreneurial leaders fit for the future.
Statements
Dean Prof. Eishwar Maanay, drawing on decades of global experience, emphasized that analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills are paramount for success, and that overall wellness is a prerequisite to achieve them. He stated, “The right amalgamation of physical, emotional and spiritual well‑being is non‑negotiable in today’s challenging world… My endeavour is to prepare the leaders of tomorrow with wellness as a focal point.”
