BNM Institute of Technology (BNMIT), an autonomous institution under Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), announced a pioneering entrepreneurship and seed‑funding programme, positioning itself as the first college in its domain to provide in‑house seed capital. The legacy of the BNM Educational Institutions dates back to 1972, establishing BNMIT as a heritage engineering and management college in Bangalore, Karnataka.
The new programme offers students seed funding typically around Rs 3,00,000 per project. To unlock this funding, student teams must prepare comprehensive project presentations, an impact matrix and projected return‑on‑investment analyses, thereby simulating a real‑world investor‑pitch environment while still in college. The institute’s faculty continuously scouts for socially‑impactful projects within the curriculum and allocates the seed capital to those proposals, enabling students to gain early exposure to venture‑capital and financial‑institution funding pathways.
Dean Prof. Eishwar Maanay, drawing on his decades of global experience, emphasized that analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills, coupled with the ability to attract or demand funding, are essential for contemporary success. He noted that “the industry out there is cruel; every investor looks for unique yet impactful projects and expects immediate results,” and asserted that the seed‑funding initiative gives BNMIT students a decisive edge over peers.
BNMIT’s curriculum is designed to cultivate entrepreneurial acumen from day one, integrating industry‑relevant simulations, challenges and socially‑relevant problem solving into every course. The institute also employs a People‑First Grading Mechanism called the Professional Grade Point Average (PGPA), which evaluates students on communication, personal well‑being, creativity, problem‑solving and other soft‑skill parameters rather than solely on theoretical marks. This grading system is intended to foster independent thinking and ownership of ideas, preparing graduates to become impactful entrepreneurs.
Academic offerings at BNMIT span undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes in artificial intelligence, information science, machine learning, electronics and management, among others. The institution’s personality‑centric education methodology aims to create entrepreneurial leaders equipped for future challenges.
