Overview
BotLab Dynamics, an IIT‑Delhi‑incubated deep‑tech company, delivered a Grand Mahalaya Durga Puja Drone Show on October 10, 2026 at Eden Gardens Stadium, Kolkata. The spectacle employed 3,000 drones and attracted an estimated crowd of 40,000 people.
Event Details
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari inaugurated the 2026 Durga Puja festivities on Mahalaya and personally witnessed the drone display, later sharing it on his social media platforms. The show’s visibility radius was reported to be nearly 10 kilometres, extending its visual impact well beyond the stadium grounds. Following the Mahalaya performance, BotLab announced a subsequent drone show scheduled for October 15, 2026 in Digha, marking the Maha Panchami celebration.
Creative Narrative
The aerial choreography was designed as an audio‑led tribute to Bengali Mahalaya traditions. Formations began with the delicate imagery of Kaash Phool, symbolising autumn, then progressed through cultural motifs such as the Mangal Ghot, lotus‑adorned hands, and the looming figure of Mahishasura. The narrative culminated with the Goddess Durga’s ten‑armed form, the symbolic trishul, and the climactic Chokkhudhaan (opening of the Goddess’s eyes). The soundtrack incorporated the iconic Chandipath recitation by Birendra Krishna Bhadra, alongside songs “Bajlo Tomar Aalor Benu,” “Aigiri Nandini,” and music accompanying the Chokkhudhaan sequence, creating a multi‑sensory storytelling experience.
Company Background
BotLab Dynamics has built its drone‑show hardware and software in‑house and currently operates a fleet of more than 10,000 drones. To date, the firm has executed over 700 shows and holds seven Guinness World Records for aerial displays. Prior notable projects include the 2025 Amazon Durga Puja campaign at Uddipani Park Circus, the International Yoga Day drone show at Prinsep Ghat in June 2026, and a record‑setting display at Mysuru Dasara in 2025. The company’s Head of Business, Aayush Bector, emphasized the importance of grounding the visual spectacle in Bengali cultural memory, stating that “experiential storytelling works best when it begins with an audience’s existing connection to a place, a tradition or an emotion.” Founder and Managing Director Dr Sarita Ahlawat added that the aim is to create moments that resonate emotionally, noting that audience reactions of folded hands, smiles, and wonder indicate a successful connection.
Future Plans
Beyond the Digha show on October 15, BotLab Dynamics indicated that more festive drone experiences are planned across India, aiming to blend tradition with contemporary technology throughout the Durga Puja season.
