Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) announced that it will sponsor the Indian football team’s high‑profile international fixtures against former FIFA World Cup champions Uruguay and Brazil, to be staged in Kolkata.

Brazil defeated India 4–0 at the Salt Lake Stadium after India showed a strong fight in the opening 27 minutes. Earlier, India had held 44th‑ranked Panama to a 1–1 draw, entering the Brazil match with confidence. Brazil is ranked fifth globally.
