Bper Banca CEO Announces Post‑Summer Share Buyback and M&A Readiness
Gianni Franco Papa, Chief Executive Officer of Bper Banca, told analysts that the bank’s robust capital position equips it to explore potential business combinations and to enhance shareholder returns, provided market conditions are favourable. He confirmed that Bper Banca will commence a share‑buyback programme immediately after the summer period concludes.
Papa highlighted that the Italian banking merger‑and‑acquisition landscape remains active, with several transactions still pending definitive outcomes. He characterised the prospective transaction between Monte dei Paschi di Siena and Intesa Sanpaolo as “more probable than possible” based on recent market signals.
Regarding BFF, Papa noted that its payment‑services and depositary‑bank operations align well with Bper Banca’s business model. He added that the bank would be open to partnering with other interested buyers if BFF opts to sell the entire group rather than divesting individual business units.
