Event Overview

On 7 September 2026, The British School New Delhi organised an evening titled “Unveiling India: An Incredible Journey” to celebrate the richness, diversity and cultural heritage of India. The event aimed to raise awareness of the school’s existing club, Unveiling India, which encourages students and the wider school community to explore and celebrate India’s diverse traditions.

Key Participants

The ceremony was attended by Timothy Curtis, Director and UNESCO Representative of the New Delhi Regional Office, who served as Chief Guest, and Vanita Uppal OBE, Director of The British School New Delhi. They were joined by students, families, staff and other members of the school community.

Programme Highlights

A special musical performance was delivered by renowned artist Sonam Kalra together with The Sufi Gospel Project, blending Indian folk and Sufi traditions with contemporary influences. The evening also showcased a fashion segment presented by members of the school community, featuring traditional and contemporary ensembles representing different Indian states. Guests were offered a selection of Indian refreshments that reflected the country’s varied culinary traditions.

Our deep appreciation and respect for diversity coupled with our belief in a shared humanity underpinned the spectacular showcase of India’s rich cultural heritage. The school community came together in a dazzling display of the exquisite fabrics, weaves and costumes from across the country, followed by a mesmerising and soulful concert by the ever‑so‑talented Sonam Kalra and the Sufi Gospel Project. The story of incredible India will continue to be unveiled in our classrooms and events.”
