Brookfield Asset Management Ltd (NYSE:BAM) issued a statement on 25 October 2026 announcing that it will open a new office in Doha, Qatar, as part of its strategy to deepen its presence in the Middle East. The Doha office will be anchored by Brookfield’s credit platform, which includes Oaktree Capital Management, and will build on an existing partnership with Qai – an artificial‑intelligence firm owned by the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) – to invest $20 billion in AI infrastructure across Qatar and international markets. Brookfield currently manages approximately $20 billion in assets spanning private equity, real estate, credit and infrastructure across the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. Jad Ellawn, Brookfield’s managing partner and regional head of the Middle East, described the new Doha location as a natural extension of the firm’s regional expansion strategy. The announcement comes amid a broader wave of international investment managers establishing footholds in the Gulf; private‑equity firms Advent International, Eurazeo and EQT have recently opened offices in Abu Dhabi, Robinhood Markets plans to launch a retail investment platform from Dubai next year, and BlackRock’s Global Infrastructure Partners has set up a presence in Doha. Despite the expansion, Qatar’s economy faces pressure from the regional conflict: an Iranian attack on the Ras Laffan LNG complex in March damaged roughly 17 % of the country’s liquefied natural gas export capacity, with estimated losses of $20 billion and repairs projected to take at least three years, keeping LNG shipments below pre‑war levels. Nevertheless, QIA continues to pursue major international partnerships, having announced in September a $20 billion collaboration with JPMorgan Chase & Co and a similar agreement with Goldman Sachs Group Inc. Brookfield’s move underscores the firm’s confidence in the long‑term growth prospects of the Gulf region despite short‑term geopolitical and energy‑sector disruptions.
