BWX Technologies, Inc. (NYSE:BWXT) saw its shares rise 3.1% in pre‑market trading on Thursday following the announcement that the company has been selected to deploy its BWXT Advanced Nuclear Reactor technology for the U.S. Army’s Janus program. The first Banr (Advanced Nuclear Reactor) will be installed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, on the Kentucky‑Tennessee border.

Janus Program Details

The Janus initiative, launched in October 2025, is a nuclear‑energy effort led by the U.S. Army in partnership with the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) to provide reliable power for national‑defense missions and critical installations. BWXT will execute the program under a phased contracting approach. In the first phase, the company will work with the Army and DIU on final site selection at Fort Campbell, commence nuclear regulatory processes, and start TRISO fuel fabrication at its existing facilities. BWXT targets groundbreaking for site construction in late 2028, with reactor operations expected to begin in the early 2030s.

Analyst Upgrade and Investor Day

Wells Fargo analyst David Strauss upgraded BWX Technologies from Underweight to Equal Weight, reducing the price target to $170 from $200. The company has scheduled its investor day for September 29.

Commercial Business and Government Contracts

BWX’s commercial business has delivered double‑digit organic growth for several years and now accounts for roughly one‑third of total revenue. To date, the firm has been awarded more than $3 billion in Department of Energy contracts, which support growth in Special Materials within its Government Operations segment.
