Castrol India Limited announced the launch of its first skilling centre under its flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme 'Ujjwal Kal' in Kolkata. The centre was unveiled on 1 October 2026 in association with Smile Foundation.
The skilling centre is located at the Smile Foundation STeP Centre in Santoshpur, Kolkata. It aims to equip young adults from economically disadvantaged communities with industry-relevant skills and connect them to employment opportunities and sustainable livelihoods.
The training programmes offered include:
- Digital technologies
- Artificial Intelligence (AI)
- Retail
- Beauty & wellness
- Communication readiness
- Digital literacy
Learners will receive recognized certificates and placement assistance upon completion of training.
'Ujjwal Kal' is Castrol India's flagship CSR initiative launched in 2021, focusing on:
- Strengthening livelihoods through youth upskilling
- Women empowerment
- Community development
The programme has a particular focus on improving access to opportunities for young women and underserved communities.
Programme statistics disclosed:
- In 2025, Ujjwal Kal initiatives benefited close to 5,000 individuals across education, upskilling, and healthcare
- Primary target age group: 18-28 years
- Current participant composition: nearly 85% young women
- Target employment outcome: 50-55% of graduates to secure direct employment or pursue self-employment opportunities
