Cboe Completes Sale of Australian Exchange to TMX Group
Cboe Global Markets, Inc. announced that it has completed the sale of its Australian subsidiary, Cboe Australia, which has been renamed TMX Australia Exchange, to TMX Group Limited. The transaction is presented as part of Cboe’s broader strategy to refocus on its core operations and to align its organization and capital with long‑term priorities. Prashant Bhatia, Executive Vice President and Head of Enterprise Strategy & Corporate Development at Cboe, stated that the sale enables the company to concentrate resources on its primary business objectives.
Despite the divestiture, Cboe confirmed it will maintain a presence in the Asia‑Pacific region, continuing to offer U.S. equities, derivatives, market data, and educational products to clients in that geography. The company also noted that a previously announced sale of Cboe Canada to TMX Group, disclosed in April 2026, remains pending and will close at a later date subject to local regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.
Cboe Global Markets operates derivatives, equities, and foreign exchange markets worldwide; it launched the first listed options exchange in 1973 and created the VIX Index, a widely used measure of market volatility.
