The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has granted approval for Honda Motor Co., Ltd.'s acquisition of a 21% voting interest in Astemo, Ltd. from Hitachi, Ltd. The proposed combination involves the transfer of voting rights in the Japanese automotive components manufacturer.
Honda Motor Co., Ltd. is a Japanese joint stock corporation and the flagship company of the Honda Group. In India, the company is primarily engaged in manufacturing and selling automobiles, two-wheelers, and power products, along with manufacturing automotive components for both automobiles and two-wheelers, and conducting research and development activities.
Astemo, Ltd. was incorporated in 2009 under Japanese laws and underwent a merger and integration in 2021. The company is currently jointly controlled by Honda Motor Co., Ltd., Hitachi, Ltd., and JICC-01 Investment Business Limited Partnership. In India, Astemo is primarily engaged in manufacturing and selling automotive components for automobiles and two-wheelers, selling components for power products, and conducting ancillary research and development activities.
The Commission noted that a detailed order regarding this approval will follow. The announcement was made through the PIB Delhi release mechanism on June 23, 2026.
