Overview

Chandigarh University (CU) announced that, over the past three years, 272 students from its Allied Health Sciences programmes – covering Optometry, Forensic Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Nutrition and Dietetics, and Physiotherapy – have been placed in leading corporate organisations as well as prestigious government and private healthcare institutions such as AIIMS Rishikesh, PGIMER Chandigarh, Fortis Hospital, Max Super Specialty Hospital and various government‑run Forensic Science Laboratories.

Internship Programme

To enhance employability, CU’s University Institute of Allied Health Sciences (UIAHS) facilitated a total of 393 internships for allied‑health students at premier hospitals, clinics and public‑health institutions, notably PGIMER Chandigarh, Fortis Hospital and Max Super Specialty Hospital. These internships were designed to provide hands‑on clinical training and bridge classroom theory with real‑world patient management.

Programme‑Specific Placement Details

  • Optometry: 65 students secured jobs in the past three years, primarily with private eye‑care chains such as Lenskart, Sankara Eye Hospital, Sohana Eye Hospital, Grover Eye Hospital, Dealscart and Essilor. The highest annual salary offered was Rs 6 LPA. Three graduates – Yash Thakur, Simrandeep Kaur and Sukhdeep Kaur – obtained positions in government‑run facilities (Civil Hospital Nalagarh, Community Health Centre Machhiwara and Punjab Government BFUHS recruitment). Seven optometry alumni have launched their own startups. CU arranged internships for 153 optometry students at leading institutions across the country.
  • Forensic Science: 67 students were placed, with the top salary of Rs 8 LPA and an average package of Rs 3.5 LPA. Twenty‑one graduates secured roles in central and state forensic laboratories, including Central Forensic Science Laboratory (Shimla, Goa, Kolkata, Chandigarh), Telangana State Forensic Science Laboratory, Directorate of Forensic Science Laboratories Mumbai, National Forensic Sciences University Manipur, and regional labs in Bikaner and Jodhpur.
  • Nutrition and Dietetics: 98 students obtained placements as dietitians, clinical nutritionists and diet counsellors, with the highest package of Rs 6 LPA. Internships were provided to 73 students at institutions such as PGIMER Chandigarh, GMCH Chandigarh, Apollo Hospitals Hyderabad, Max Super Specialty Hospital Mohali, Nazareth Hospital Shillong, Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences Imphal, CMRI Hospital, CK Birla Hospitals Kolkata and Vivekananda Medical Institute Palampur.
  • Physiotherapy: 48 graduates secured jobs at notable centres including Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Center (Mohali), Fortis Hospital (Mohali), Max Healthcare (Gurgaon) and Apollo Homecare. The highest salary was Rs 5 LPA. Internships were arranged for 121 physiotherapy students at domestic facilities such as SKIMS MCH Srinagar, CK Birla Hospital Rajasthan, Government Medical College & Hospital Chandigarh, Government Medical College Handwara (J&K), as well as international sites like Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital (Bhutan) and Bishoftu Hospital (Ethiopia).
  • Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT): 49 students secured placements in the past two years, with the top package of Rs 9.70 LPA offered by Continuum LLP and Ace Healthcare, Patiala. Seven alumni are employed with the Indian Army, AIIMS Rishikesh, PGIMER Chandigarh, Tanda Hospital (Himachal Pradesh), Kolkata Medical College, and overseas institutions such as Dodoma Regional Hospital (Tanzania) and MRC Gambia. CU facilitated internships for 46 MLT students at a range of hospitals and laboratories, including Civil Hospital Mohali, Fortis Hospital, Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital (New Chandigarh), Government Medical College Amritsar, Max Super Specialty Hospital (New Delhi), Guru Nanak Dev Hospital Amritsar and Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital (Bhutan).

Entrepreneurial Initiatives

Beyond placements, seven optometry graduates have founded startups, underscoring CU’s emphasis on entrepreneurship within allied health.

Institutional Credentials

Chandigarh University is a NAAC‑A+ graded, QS‑world‑ranked autonomous university approved by the UGC. It is the youngest private university in Punjab and the only one in the state to receive an A+ grade from NAAC. CU offers more than 109 undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across engineering, management, pharmacy, law, architecture, journalism, animation, hotel management, commerce and other fields. The university has been recognised as “The University with Best Placements” by the World Corporate Rankings Council (WCRC).
