Overview

Chandigarh University announced that a team of its researchers has been granted a patent for an all‑in‑one mobile Vehicle Maintenance System that brings comprehensive vehicle servicing directly to the customer’s doorstep, eliminating the need for long queues at conventional service centres.

Patent Details

The invention, titled "Vehicle Maintenance System," received patent approval in May 2026 from the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs & Trade Marks (CGPDTM), the Indian authority responsible for administering intellectual‑property law.

System Features

The mobile unit is designed to replicate the functionality of a traditional service station on a movable platform. It integrates:

  • Real‑time computerized vehicle diagnostics for fault detection and preventive maintenance.
  • Engine oil, brake oil, air‑filter and oil‑filter replacement.
  • On‑board wheel‑alignment capability.
  • Hydraulic lifting mechanism with a locking system to ensure safety during inspection and maintenance.
  • Adjustable body‑on‑frame structure to accommodate various passenger‑vehicle sizes.
  • Dust‑free washing facility.
  • Roadside rescue and heavy‑duty towing equipment for stranded vehicles.

These capabilities enable services such as preventive maintenance for individual owners, fleet maintenance, emergency roadside assistance, and delivery of automotive services to rural or remote locations as well as corporate and institutional fleets.
