Launch Overview
On International Coffee Day (1 October 2026), the Indian Ambassador to Greece, Shri Ravi Shankar, formally inaugurated The Origin Box in Athens. The launch event, attended by senior executives from Coffee Island and The Coorg Coffee Club, as well as media and coffee enthusiasts, was preceded by a press conference on 30 September that offered an early preview of the collection.
Product Details
The Origin Box comprises five specially processed coffees, each sourced from a distinct Coorg estate and bearing the name of its estate and grower. The selection showcases three coffee species – Arabica, Canephora (Robusta) and Excelsa – with every lot documented from harvest through fermentation, drying and roasting, enabling consumers to trace each cup back to its origin. While The Coorg Coffee Club collaborates with ten estates overall, the inaugural edition presents five of them.
Market Reach
The box is now available in more than 400 Coffee Island stores across Greece and Cyprus. Coffee Island operates over 500 stores in 14 countries and four continents, with the Greek and Cypriot footprint accounting for the majority of this network.
Strategic Partnership
Both partners emphasize sustainability, fair sourcing and traceability. Coffee Island provides market access and extensive retail reach throughout Greece, Cyprus and the broader European market, whereas The Coorg Coffee Club supplies the origin story, estate relationships and processing expertise. Panagiotis Konstantinopoulos, Managing Director of Coffee Island, highlighted that the partnership brings “the hard work, passion, and tradition of Indian farmers directly into homes across Greece and Cyprus.”
Technical and Agronomic Highlights
Ms Sunalini Menon, Founder of Coffee Lab, explained that Coorg’s shade‑grown coffee thrives beneath native trees such as rosewood, mahogany and cedars, imparting flavor notes of citrus, spices, chocolate and caramel with a smooth, full‑bodied mouthfeel. The estates are situated in the forested Western Ghats, where shade growing is a traditional practice rather than a certification label.
Founder Commentary
Karumbaiah B K, Founder of The Coorg Coffee Club, stated that the well‑processed Indian coffees “stand shoulder to shoulder with Ethiopian, Colombian or Kenyan coffee” and that the launch demonstrated the platform Coffee Island provides for Indian specialty coffee.
