Coles Transfers Up to 1,000 Corporate Roles to Accenture
Coles, the Australian supermarket giant, announced that it will transfer a portion of its corporate positions to Accenture teams both in Australia and overseas as part of a cost‑reduction programme. The retailer said the shift will see certain corporate functions moved to the IT consulting firm, while the employees affected by the transfer will be redeployed into other roles within Coles.
The change is intended to lower expenses amid intensifying competition in the retail sector, which Coles attributes to the rise of e‑commerce operators and the competitive pressure from its larger rival, Woolworths. According to the Australian Financial Review, reported on Friday, Coles plans to move up to 1,000 positions to India under an agreement with Accenture.
Coles told Reuters that the initiative is aimed at reducing costs as competition increases, and the company expects the outsourcing arrangement to help it maintain its market position while managing its cost base.
