Record‑setting Oral Health Initiative
On World Smile Day, Colgate‑Palmolive India announced the successful completion of the "Largest Multi‑Location Oral Screening Programme", a coordinated effort with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and the Indian Dental Association (IDA) of Tamil Nadu. Between 17 and 28 August 2026, the coalition screened 308,106 students across 547 CBSE‑affiliated schools in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The rapid‑scale operation mobilised 2,100 dentists, 29 regional dental colleges, and CBSE officials across 40 districts, and was officially recognised by the World Records Union (WRU) as a world record.
Integration with Colgate’s Bright Smiles, Bright Futures Programme
The screening forms part of Colgate’s flagship Bright Smiles, Bright Futures (BSBF) initiative, which has been active since 1991. To date, BSBF has provided preventive oral‑care outreach to over 200 million children and their families nationwide. In the fiscal year 2025 alone, the programme engaged 11 million children across 35,000 schools. The current campaign extends the programme’s focus from basic awareness to measurable behavioural interventions, linking oral‑health diagnostics with nutrition and substance‑abuse education.
Broader Social Impact and ESG Alignment
Colgate highlighted its broader ESG commitments, noting that its "Keep India Smiling" and Rural Development programmes have collectively benefitted over 640,000 individuals by addressing intersecting challenges in education, financial inclusion and water security. These initiatives align with the company’s 2030 SMILE Strategy, which seeks to embed preventive health habits and community resilience into its long‑term growth model.
Executive Commentary
In a statement, Shilpashree Muniswamappa, Director – ESG & Communications, said the World Smile Day milestone validates the collaborative model and underscores the potential of public‑private synergies to rapidly scale critical health interventions. She emphasized that while the world‑record achievement showcases operational scale, the strategic focus remains on institutionalising preventive habits that deliver lifelong developmental dividends for the next generation.
