Announcement
Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Ltd. (CGCEL), a leading Indian consumer electrical brand, announced the launch of Crompton Armor Wires, marking its entry into the house‑wires category.
Market Opportunity
The Indian cables and wires sector is valued at nearly Rs 1.25 lakh crore. Residential house wires alone account for Rs 30,000–35,000 crore and are projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 12–14% between 2024 and 2029, according to a 2024 Motilal Oswal research report.
Product Portfolio
The Crompton Armor range includes multiple variants. The premium “Armor Ultra” version contains 10% more copper than standard wires and is rated for operation up to 90 °C. All variants use 99.9%+ pure copper, are low‑smoke and low‑toxic‑gas, flame‑retardant, anti‑termite and anti‑rodent, and comply with 100% RoHS and national safety norms.
Go‑to‑Market Strategy
The launch is being rolled out first in South India—Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Karnataka—leveraging Crompton’s existing distribution network and dealer base. The strategy emphasizes direct engagement with electricians, contractors, key retailers, architects and builders. An accompanying “Crompton Saathi” mobile app will provide electricians with product information and incentive details.
Executive Comments
Promeet Ghosh, MD & CEO of CGCEL, said the entry into residential house wires is a natural extension of the company’s 85‑year legacy and a strategic growth opportunity, emphasizing the need to raise awareness about wiring safety. Shaleen Nayak, Business Unit Head – Lighting, Solar, Wires & Cables, highlighted the scalability, durability and compliance of the new wires, and noted the launch of the Saathi app to strengthen relationships with electricians.
