The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) organized a Technology Transfer Event at its New Delhi headquarters on September 16, 2026, featuring technologies from two of its laboratories ready for commercial licensing. CSIR-Central Leather Research Institute (CSIR-CLRI) presented two waste valorization technologies: one produces protein-based syntans from chrome shavings (non-biodegradable leather waste) by recovering chromium-free protein hydrolysate and converting it into acrylic-, phenolic- and melamine-based syntans for leather retanning reuse. This technology has been demonstrated at 100–200 kg pilot scale and validated at commercial scale of 1,500 kg, achieving up to 50% reduction in total dissolved solids (TDS) in post-tanning streams. The second CLRI technology sustainably valorizes spent pickling acid from steel processing by recovering iron and chloride to produce pigment-grade iron oxide and ammonium chloride, converting hazardous waste into commercial products.
CSIR-Central Road Research Institute (CSIR-CRRI) presented two road technologies: ClariVisor is an in-vehicle glare mitigation device designed for four-wheelers that fits within the OEM sun visor footprint without structural changes. The Two Pack Onsite Pothole Filling Mix is a cold-application repair material supplied in two separate packs for on-site blending, eliminating need for hot-mix plants or heating, reducing energy consumption and emissions while enabling faster repairs and early road reopening. Dr. N. Kalaiselvi, Secretary of Department of Scientific and Industrial Research and DG of CSIR, emphasized accelerating technology translation from labs to industry for tangible societal, environmental and economic impact through stronger industry partnerships.
