CXMT Targets $8.6bn Shanghai IPO, Largest 2026
ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), China’s largest DRAM chipmaker, announced plans to raise a minimum of 57.9 billion yuan (approximately $8.6 billion) through an initial public offering on Shanghai’s technology‑focused STAR Market. The offering size could increase to 66.6 billion yuan if the overallotment option is exercised, potentially making it the biggest Asian IPO of 2026.
CXMT produces dynamic random‑access memory (DRAM) chips used in smartphones, PCs, servers and artificial‑intelligence systems. In 2025 the company ranked fourth globally in DRAM production, holding about 7.7 % of the worldwide market, behind Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix and Micron Technology.
Strong AI‑related demand and a broader recovery in memory‑chip prices have accelerated CXMT’s growth. First‑quarter revenue jumped 719 % year‑on‑year to 50.8 billion yuan. For the first half of the year, the company forecasts sales between 110 billion and 120 billion yuan, which is nearly twice the 61.8 billion yuan generated across all of 2025.
Before the IPO, state‑owned investors owned 36.29 % of CXMT. Major shareholders include Anhui Investment Group and the second phase of China’s National Integrated Circuit Industry Investment Fund, commonly referred to as the “Big Fund.” Chairman Zhu Yiming, who previously founded memory‑chip designer GigaDevice Semiconductor (stock code SS:603986), played a central role in establishing CXMT.
Technologically, CXMT still trails its larger rivals in high‑bandwidth memory, a key component for AI accelerators used by companies such as Nvidia. Samsung and SK Hynix dominate that segment, with Micron also expanding production.
Risks highlighted in the filing include the inherent boom‑and‑bust cycle of the memory industry and U.S. export controls that restrict access to advanced manufacturing equipment from suppliers such as ASML Holding. The U.S. Defense Department designated CXMT a “Chinese Military Company” last month, underscoring geopolitical and regulatory concerns.
The proceeds from the IPO are earmarked for expanding production capacity, upgrading manufacturing technology, and funding research and development initiatives.
