D-Wave Quantum Announces Gate‑Model Simulator
D‑Wave Quantum Inc. (NYSE: QBTS) saw its shares rise 3 % in pre‑market trading on Thursday following the announcement of a gate‑model quantum computing simulator slated for launch in 2026. The simulator is expected to become available in September 2026 and will be the first of its kind built around dual‑rail technology, which the company says embeds error‑awareness directly into the architecture.
The system will support up to 21 qubits and will offer both ideal and hardware‑emulation modes. It will also feature Monte Carlo simulation of real‑time quantum system dynamics and will be integrated with D‑Wave’s Ocean SDK. Access to the simulator will be provided through D‑Wave’s Leap cloud platform.
To commercialise the offering, D‑Wave will provide quantum development bundles in two tiers – a Starter package and a Premium package – each delivering monthly access allocations and guidance from D‑Wave’s team. Pricing for the bundles is available on request.
Dr. Trevor Lanting, chief development officer at D‑Wave, stated that “error awareness is built into the architecture through dual‑rail technology, giving developers access to error‑detection data and real‑time control capabilities that can help them design more resilient quantum applications.”
The launch follows D‑Wave’s recent outline of its approach to fault‑tolerant quantum computing and reinforces its positioning as the only dual‑platform quantum computing company that delivers both annealing and gate‑model systems, together with associated software and services.
