Announcement
On June 17, 2026, Daicel Corporation’s High Performance Polymers (HPPs) Strategic Business Unit – formerly Polyplastics Co., Ltd. – issued a press release from Osaka, Japan, stating that its DURAST® POM fine powder has been adopted for an innovative stick‑form lubricant produced by Japan‑based Maia Co. Ltd.
Product Description
Maia’s lubricant utilizes a proprietary manufacturing technology called Sol‑Mid™ that delivers the product in a stick‑shaped container, which can also be molded into custom shapes. The stick‑form solution is created by mixing ultra‑high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW‑PE) with grease, with DURAST® POM acting as an interlayer to maintain compatibility between the PE and the grease.
Benefits and Performance
The solid stick format eliminates the risk of leakage associated with liquid lubricants, offers greater convenience for maintenance crews, and can reduce the use of conventional maintenance oil for office equipment by approximately 80%. The product is also positioned for use in industrial machinery repair, bicycle maintenance, and conveyor‑system upkeep.
Manufacturing Innovation
Daicel highlighted that producing a uniform fine powder from general‑purpose resins using conventional grinding methods was previously extremely difficult. The company overcame this by developing a proprietary manufacturing process for DURAST® POM that yields a distinctive particle shape and a controlled, fine‑sharp particle‑size distribution.
Commercialization Plan
Full‑scale commercialization of the stick‑form lubricant is scheduled, targeting major office‑equipment manufacturers and the broader industrial sectors mentioned above.
