Announcement

De Beers Group announced that it will return to the Frieze Masters art fair for a second consecutive year, presenting the second chapter of its travelling immersive exhibition “Voyage Through the Diamond Realm”. The new installment, titled Chapter II: On the Birth of a Diamond, will be on display at Frieze Masters in London and Mumbai on 21 October 2026.

Installation Details

The exhibition occupies three distinct rooms. The first room features a five‑metre handcrafted tapestry created by Shifron Mercury Studio; the tapestry is woven from natural fibres sourced from Botswana’s Okavango Delta and incorporates ceramic “stellar fragments” that echo the forms of rough natural diamonds, as well as ostrich‑eggshell beads that symbolise the link between Earth‑bound formation and cosmic origins. The second room showcases a new commission of hand‑crafted amulets produced by Botswana‑based Peter Mabeo Studio in collaboration with basket weavers, potters and wood‑carvers from across Botswana. De Beers’ natural diamonds are set within these amulets, highlighting the convergence of traditional craft and the diamond value chain.

Visitor Experience

A cinematic space follows, where visitors watch an immersive film narrated by actors Lucian Msamati and Kristin Winters. The soundscape also integrates original work from artists Mumsy Themba and Ecka Mordecai. The final room is designed for reflection; rough natural diamonds are illuminated by ultraviolet light, allowing some stones to display a hidden blue fluorescence – described by the press release as “the secret within the stone”.

Future Tour and Strategic Intent

De Beers indicated that, after its run at Frieze Masters, the Chapter II exhibition will continue to tour internationally, building on the global success of the first edition, which travelled from London to Mumbai and New York. Lynn Serfaty, General Manager – Natural Diamonds at De Beers, said the exhibition explores the extraordinary origin story of natural diamonds through the twin concepts of creation and creativity, and that the collaboration with artists and craftspeople from Botswana, the United Kingdom and France brings the story of these natural works of art to life.
