Programme Launch
Deakin University GIFT City Campus announced the launch of a new postgraduate programme, the Master of Applied Artificial Intelligence (Professional), aimed at Indian students. The programme will commence with its inaugural intake in July 2027, and applications are now open.
Accreditation and Qualification
The degree is delivered on the GIFT City campus, recognised at Australian Qualifications Framework Level 9, and is professionally accredited by the Australian Computer Society. It mirrors the curriculum of Deakin’s equivalent programme in Australia.
Curriculum and Specialisations
Students will study advanced AI topics including machine learning, deep learning, AI engineering, natural language processing, computer vision, robotics, speech processing, reinforcement learning and human‑aligned AI. The course combines technical foundations with industry‑focused projects, professional practice and research components.
Admission Criteria
Two admission routes are offered: (i) graduates holding a bachelor’s degree or higher in a related discipline such as Information Technology; or (ii) graduates from any discipline who possess at least two years of relevant work experience (or part‑time equivalent) as per Deakin’s admissions requirements. This enables both IT graduates and professionals from other fields to acquire specialist AI capabilities.
Career Outcomes
Graduates are positioned for roles such as machine‑learning engineer, AI solutions developer, AI architect, natural‑language‑processing specialist, AI product manager, intelligent‑automation expert and AI‑led innovation leader.

Programme Context
The AI master joins existing Deakin postgraduate offerings at GIFT City, namely the Master of Business Analytics and the Master of Cyber Security (Professional). The inaugural cohort will be limited in size to ensure strong academic engagement, industry connections and personalised learning opportunities.
