DP World Reaffirms Long‑Term Partnership and Announces ₹500 Cr Nhava Sheva Expansion

DP World’s Executive Chairman H.E. Essa Kazim made his first visit to India in his new role, accompanied by Group CEO Mr. Yuvraj Narayan and members of the Global Board of Directors. The delegation met with Mr. Gaurav Dayal, IAS, Chairman of the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), and Mr. Ravish Kumar, IRTS, Deputy Chairman, to reaffirm a partnership that dates back almost three decades, originating with the concession agreement for the Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal (NSICT). The discussions also explored future collaboration, including the development of Vadhavan Port and additional investment in the JNPA Special Economic Zone.

During the visit, Kazim and Narayan inaugurated Phase 2 of the Nhava Sheva Business Park (NSBP). Phase 1 of the park, covering 44 acres, already provides one million square feet of warehousing space. Phase 2 adds a further 42 acres and another one million square feet of warehousing, representing an investment of approximately ₹500 crore (US$52 million). The combined two‑phase development strengthens DP World’s ability to meet the growing and increasingly sophisticated requirements of customers across industries.

DP World highlighted that its Indian operations serve roughly a quarter of the country’s EXIM container market through five container terminals with a total installed capacity of 6 million TEUs per annum. The company also operates three free‑trade warehousing zones, five million square feet of warehousing space, five container freight stations, and an express logistics network that reaches 15,000 pin codes. In addition, DP World is one of the largest private rail freight operators in India, owning more than 16,000 containers and operating eight inland rail terminals.

Commenting on the visit, H.E. Essa Kazim said that India is a strategic partner in DP World’s global growth journey and that the company sees significant opportunities to contribute to India’s ambition of becoming a leading global trading nation. He emphasized that the investment goes beyond infrastructure, aiming to build enduring partnerships, strengthen connectivity, and create integrated supply‑chain solutions that enable Indian businesses to compete more effectively in global markets. The expansion of the Nhava Sheva Business Park, he added, reflects DP World’s confidence in India’s long‑term potential and its commitment to meeting evolving customer needs.

The expansion is part of a broader vision to develop an integrated logistics ecosystem at Nhava Sheva, linking port operations with container freight stations, rail, warehousing, and Free Trade Warehousing Zone capabilities. By bringing these complementary services together, DP World aims to enable customers to move cargo more efficiently, optimise logistics costs, and access end‑to‑end supply‑chain solutions through a connected infrastructure network.
